#3 You're ahead of your time
a monday newsletter to stop you feeling sh*t about where you are in your life.
Good morning you,
How are you feeling? 💓
Can I be honest? I almost didn’t write this morning’s newsletter. I noticed I’d lost subscribers and started to wonder if I’d done something wrong in my writing—maybe there were too many typos (shoutout to dyslexia), maybe my writing is confusing or hard to read, or maybe I’m oversharing (it’s the one thing I’m good at!). But then I realized that continuing to write, even if people unfollow or unsubscribe, can only strengthen my tone of voice. Writing even when people “clock out” is part of the process. We often give up at the first hurdle, and it’s tempting to just throw in the towel and think, “This isn’t working.” But, in reality, it creates space for the people who want to “clock in.” It’s hard to remember that sometimes.
However, if I’m here every Monday telling you to consume more than you create, and reminding you weekly that “you’re ahead of your time,” then I better practice what I preach, right? Because nobody starts off “good” at anything. I have to keep going, and even if my writing isn’t perfect, I feel much better for doing it than for not.
Yrsa Daley is one of my favorite writers on here, she has a substack is called
. She posted something on her substack timeline that shifted me back to where I need to be:‘‘When you’re lost, make something. You don’t need to be “good” at your creativity for it to save your life. You just need to show up for it.”
Ugh, perfect. So here I am, showing up.
with that being said let’s get consuming and getting you some joy!
I’ve done it like a mood board <3 sources are below.

1. Dolly Parton & Andy Warhol (Interview Magazine 1984) Big up Dolly P!!
2. Me at White City House in the loo’s wearing my Anis Top in Black from Ninety Percent, and wearing my Havre Studio Blazer in Classic Black blazer after a meeting at ITV feeling excited about things to come.
3. Methods for New Women a liberating manifesto by Author and Entrepreneur Sharmadein Reid (MBE) - (This book changed my life)
4. Quote by FbeingHumble on Instagram (follow her she’s fab)
But also what lie did she tell? None!
5. Anatomy of a Pin-up (1984/2006) by Annie Sprinkle - American Sexologist and Porn star for twenty years, and performance artist in her archival print
This piece examines the unrealistic standards placed on sex workers, models, and women as a whole. Annie brings attention to the stark contrast between the idealized female bombshell and the average woman’s body. Through her commentary on the image, she underscores the harmful, painful, and dangerous practices involved in crafting these male fantasies. It’s incredibly impactful. Please google it.
6. Keke Palmer’s Greatest Role Is Herself for The Cut (January 2025)
If you’re a non-white person reading this and a creative, just know when you stop comparing your journey to the journey to your white counterparts it is such a relief, it will never be the same, that’s the truth, but that reality is freeing.
7. Mickalene Thomas All About Love at The Hayward Gallery (February 2025)
I took this photo from her desk which is part of the exhibition, and I realised none of us have ever had an original thought cos I do the same thing, but looking at what her younger self wrote and who she has become is quite something.
I’m wearing my Daily Sleeper feather detail pajama set and wearing my Sezane Paula Babies in Patent red.
Makes me feel chic and parasian and makes me want to run after a black cab yelling ‘‘taxi!’’ whilst holding a croissant and a coffee.
9. “Milan Banned Smoking. Locals Aren’t Having It’’ Airmail (January 2025)
this made me smile. I love Negroni’s it’s no secret, but this quote is just iconic. It’s giving passion, more energy.
Now, how that’s for a handful?
Love you!
