''Do the thing''.
I repeat: we are never going to be ready!
So… I did a thing…
Last week, I threw my first-ever ticketed event, “The Big Bosom Brunch” in London’s Shoreditch.
I brought together 40 women whose ages ranged from 20-49 and who all had Big Boobs (and also Big Hearts!). It was about connection, unity, and being in a safe space together.
It was the safe space I wish I had growing up and I wanted to create this for other women.
There were goodie bags, a sexy dance class, non-stop prosecco, bra fittings, and our own little home.
Sounds dreamy right?
Just know I have never thrown an event before so everything that went wrong, went wrong.
We had to change venue the day before due to accessibility issues, we had all types of dietary requirements that needed to be met and barely any budget. Cue me running around central London trying to find milk and gluten-free alternatives and everybody - and their nan - turning to me saying: ‘‘We have run out of that I’m afraid’’.
And also cue me wanting to repeat the Charlotte from Sex and the City line: ‘‘I curse the day you were born!’’ to the lovely chap in Marks and Sparks.
I’m not the most organized person, I’m more of the chaotic kind… I think something and I want to do it straight away, I’m a Big Picture Thinker. I can come up with big ideas but don’t know how to strip them into tiny parts. Or I do my favorite unhinged-chaotic-thing where I simply tell everyone “I am doing it”, so I can’t back down.
There were moments I wanted to postpone because things weren’t working the way I wanted, and moments where I felt really out of my depth. But I sought counsel and kept it pushing on. I really wanted to do this for them and I’m so glad I never gave up, because…. Just look at their faces.
We pulled it off. It was a huge success.
I reached out to lots of brands, who gifted us Alcohol, Makeup, Period Products, bra extenders you name it for the goodie bags, and to my surprise, so many people wanted to help and be part of it, my wacky idea for women with big boobs what!!!
All of this to say… Do The Thing.
You know what I mean.
You know, that thing you keep getting into “analysis paralysis” about, the thing you really want to do but feel out of your depth. The thing you keep beating yourself up about that you haven’t done.
None of us will ever be ready to take that leap, I mean, I didn’t even have tables and chairs sorted when I put the event out (lol) but I did it. And I failed at GCSE Maths, so if I can sort out ticket sales and make sure those ladies had their milk-free gluten-free chocolate chip muffins then you?.... You can do anything.
Now, how’s that for a handful?

To watch: Dreaming whilst Black on BBC a 6 episode comedy series where Adjani Salmon is Kwabena, an aspiring film-maker from a Jamaican family who is working in recruitment while dreaming of one day making it as a writer and director. I have been cackling like a witch!!
To Listen: The Big Bosom Official Playlist - from last week’s brunch curated by me, its! very! camp!
To read: Colleen Rooney’s British Vogue cover! OH. MY. Say what you want about her, but she is so unproblematic, yet people find a way to insult her. I cackled at the part when she said on Wayne Rooney’s cheating: ‘‘Some people don’t know where their man is, I least I know’’. LOL. I love Edward Enniful even more for this.
